Friday Games

I think we had the highest number of players this summer....49 ball players. That allowed us to have two games with fully manned teams. Now to the games themselves. Before delving into each games let me just say that both games came down to the last inning. There were 24 runs scored in the last inning which I am sure is another one for the record books.
Team Spitalari took on Team Tutrani on Field B. Team Spit only scored one run through four innings allowing Team Tutrani to build an eight run lead. Oh how the game changed in the fifth. Team Spitscored eight runs to tie up the game. They scored one in the sixth and sealed the comeback with 9 runs in the ninth. Team Trutrani was scoreless in the last three frames. Final Score Team Spit 19 and Team Trtrani 9.
Outstanding performances
John Boito 3-4
Fred Dampier 3-4
BJ K 3-4
Bob Spit 3-4
Chris C 3-4
Bob V 3-4
Jeff Rabideau 4-4 hitting for cycle

Team Hill took on Team Lopez on Field C in what was a very exciting game, with the outcome not decided  until the last batter. I say exciting because while Team Hill scored early and took an early lead. They scored in every inning but only had a three run lead going into the last inning.Batting first in the seventh, Team Hill had six runners cross the plate to take a huge 9 run lead and given that Team Lopez had only scored 13 runs in the first six innings the outcome seemed assured.Ut the outcome is decided on the field. Team Lopez scored nine runs to tie up the game.Aided by six walks, their hitters did the rest. So in the end the score was Team Hill 19 and Team Lopez 19.

Outstanding performances
Hector N 4-4
Bob Hudson 3-5 with homer
Jose L 4-4
Earnesto 4-4

Tuesday Games

We had a very exciting three team game today. Thanks to Wally, Bob S, and Steve Hill for stepping up to manage their respective teams. Wally's team led off by posting three runs and taking the lead. Unfortunately, they only managed three more runs the entire game. They hit the ball well all day, but the stellar defense by Steve's team kept them from crossing the plate more than six times.
Bob Spitalari's team responded with three in the first, and took the lead in the fourth inning when they put up 4 runs. They held onto the lead until the sixth inning when Team Hill tied the score. Team Hill did it by scoring 7 in the fifth and 5 in the sixth. The seventh and final inning saw Team Wally score their last two runs. Team Spitalari scored two as well in the middle of the inning. Team Hill still had a chance, but a great play by Hector Nestor and two caught fly balls by Bob Spitalari snuffed out the rally.
Final score  Team Spitalari 17- team Hill 15- Team Wally 6.

Friday 1 July game

Wally, Robert Spitalari, and Sammy Lopez stepped up to manage the three teams in today's three team game. There were only six runs scored in the first three innings with Sammy's team putting up four of them. They never looked back and were only threatened when Wally's team took a one run lead in the fourth. Unfortunately it only lasted until Sammy's team got up in the bottom of the inning. Team Spitalari had some excellent chances to put up some runs, but were snuffed out in three consecutive innings when Brian Daniels made three of the most incredible catches I have ever seen at shortstop.to end the innings. With Team Wally and Team Spitalari unable to put up runs on the board, Team Lopez cruised to an easy victory. Final Score Team Lopez 13, Team Wally 9, and Team Spitalari 4.

Subject: July 8th. Field B mixed game
This might very well have been the most amazing "walk off triple play" ending to any softball or baseball game in the history of the game. But first, on to the game with veteran manager Sam Lopez and first time manager Ron Fleming. Team Fleming jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the first inning but didn't score again until the 5th inning when they trailed 8-7. Team Lopez kept chipping away scoring 2 runs at a time. Going to the open inning, home Team Lopez led 9-8.  With Donna still pitching and Lopez doing the catching duties, they just needed 3 outs for the victory. BUT as in Senior Softball something changed as Donna couldn't find the plate and walked the last 2 batters in the order as well as the leadoff hitter to load the bases with no outs. After a conference on the mound, Sam and Donna changed places and play resumed. Sam's first pitch was a ball to the 2nd hitter in the lineup. His next pitch was hit sharply to 3rd base on one hop, who stepped on 3rd for out #1, threw home to Donna for out #2.  The batter, dismayed with his performance, threw his bat and walked off the field for out #3.
So, WP was Donna and Sam picked up the save. WOW!!!!

Tuesday's games

When you read the write up from the game played on Field B, the Game between Wally's (The Ragin Cajan) Team and Team Hill you might say it wasn't much by comparison, but I contend that up until the last inning it was very competitive with some great ball played by both Teams. Team Wally broke on top with five runs in the first inning. Team Hill responded with four  runs in the bottom of the first and actually took a one run lead into the third inning. Wallys bats put up four runs in the third, and added five more in the fourth.  Team Hill outscored Wally's Team in fifth and closed the gap to just three runs. That is when the heat became a major factor in the game's outcome. Wally's team posted 12 runs in the last two innings while Team Hill went scoreless. Final Score Team Wally 27, Team Hill 12.

REMINDER THAT THERE WILL BE NO GAMES THIS FRIDAY
now to the game.....It was one for the ages on field B today with Team Wally and Team Z battling to a 12-12 tie. It certainly didn't look good for Team Z after the 1st inning, as Team Wally got off to a 4-1 lead. Team Z fought back and going into the fifth inning, they had built up a five run lead. In the bottom of the fifth, Wally bangers put up six runs to tie the score. Thank goodness that is all they were allowed to score as they were on a roll. The eighth saw both teams shut out. Team Z managed two runs in the seventh when Rusty walked (to complete another cycle at the plate) and scored on Hector Nestor's home run. Team Wally responded with two runs with two outs. Final score as stated was 12-12.

Tuesday's Games

REMINDER NO GAMES FRIDAY

We managed to beat the heat today as the heat index was 98 degrees when the last out was made. I think the majority of the players were happy that we were only playing seven innings.

Team Hill took on Team Vandenberg on field C. Both teams scored one run in the first inning. After that, Team Hill won every inning, scoring in all seven frames.Along the way Tom Kinery had a home run and Jose D had a triple. Team Vandenberg managed to get a lot of hits during the game but ended up leaving the majority of the runners on base. Final score was Team Hill 18, Team Vandenberg 7.
Outstanding players

Chris L 4-5

JR 4-5
Tom K 3-5 w home run
Steve H 3-4
Bj 3-4
Richie M 3-4
Jim 3-4

Team Spitalari faced off against Team Tutrani on field B. Mark's team rode Rusty's bat to an early lead and well after that as he went four for four with a homer, a triple, a double, and a single. Can I hear "cycle". With the exception of the fourth inning they won every inning. The game could have been closer if it weren't for all the stranded runners. One thing you can say is that, like their manager, they did not quit and fought till the last out..Unable to overcome the deficit, Team Tutrani didn't have to bat in the seventh. Final score Team Trutrani 11 and Team Spitalari 7.

Outstanding players
Rusty 4-4 with cycle

Friday Game

Today we had a very good game between two evenly matched teams. I cannot remember a game where the defenses played so well. There was a total of 15 runs scored over the nine inning game
Before recapping the game let me get on my soapbox. The issue is being on time or calling in by 08:30. Why is it important? Today we played a two team game with 15 players on each team. Had everyone signed in on time and before the teams were made up, we would have played  a three team game with ten players per team and folks would not have had to sit on the bench.
On to the game.... Team Hill were the visitors and started out strong with the first fiver batters scoring.Team Trutani responded with two runs of their own.Neither team scored in the second. Team Trutani won the third inning and closed to 6 to 5. Unfortunately that was the last runs team Trutani scored as they were shut out the rest of the way. The final score Team Hill 10 and Team Trutani 5. Ron Pepin and Raul Torres combined for the win.
Outstanding players
Fred Deloach 3-3
John Boito 3-3

Tuesday Game

I normally would have stayed to collect the sheets from the game on Field A and written up both games. Unfortunately, they were still in the fourth inning when the game on Field B was over. So they are probably still playing as I write this up

Team Kinery faced off against team Hill. Team Hill went three and out to start the game while Tom's team stopped when they reached the mandatory five run rule. After one inning people were accusing me of stacking my team. How wrong they were as Team Hill fought back and closed within two runs after four. The fifth inning saw Team Kinary increasing their lead as they once again reached the five run rule. In the sixth each team only managed to bat four players as the defenses took over. Going into the seventh Team Hill was chasing five runs. They managed to get three of the first four batters on, scoring two. Unfortunately that was all. Final score Team Kinery 12 Team Hill 9.

2 games today on field B and C.

But first an update on Gary Anderson and his triple bypass surgery Monday morning.  He said all went well and could walk without use of a walker but understandable, very sore in the chest. Stay strong Gary.

All four teams looked very equal on paper, but on field B that did not to seem to be the case as Team Spitilari had every member with 2, 3 or 4 hits while Team Thompson had only 3.  One of those days in Senior Softball. It resulted in a flip flop game with the final of 20-7.

Friday Game Field B

Two pretty evenly matched teams faced off of Field B. Things looked pretty bleak for Team Z as they fell behind early Team Tutrani  outscored them in each of the first three innings. There was a shift in momentum in the fourth when Team Z closed within one run, as the top of the line up hit for two doubles a triple and a home run in the inning. The top of the lineup got up again in the fifth inning, when with two outs they hit two more home runs and a double, scoring five runs to take a three run lead. Team T managed just one rune over the last three innings despite hitting the ball hard. The final score was Team Z 13 and Team T 10.

Tuesdays Games

An interesting game on Field B to say the least. I don't  know if it was because of the heat or the fact we were 16 minutes late starting, but the game started slow and never really picked up until the final innings. The score was just 2 to 1 after two innings. Freddy G's team picked up the pace a little over the next two innings by scoring 5 runs in each frame. Meanwhile, Dave B's team were stuck in low gear, scoring one run in each of their two innings. At the end of four innings Team Freddy held an eight run lead (12-4).
My how things changed in the next two innings. Team Freddy could only manage one run over the next two innings, while Team Dave put up eleven and took a three run lead. Going into the last inning Dave"team was up 15 to 11.
The last inning was one for the boks. Team Freddy managed to bat around, sending 3 batters up twice. This resulted in 10 runs crossing the plate. Down by seven, Dave's bats went cold. Three and out. Winning Team Freddy G 22 and Team Dave 15.

May 23 Field B

Managers today were Mark Tutrani, Dave Rounds and newcomer to managing, Gary Anderson who won his managerial debut by the score of team Gary 19, team Mark 14 and team Dave 9.  I will point out first that Ray Howard, playing with Team Mark made 2 fantastic leaping catches of line drives playing middle infielder.
The game was very close through 4 innings with a score of 8-10-6. Then Team Gary scored 5 and 4 runs in their last 2 at bats for the final score. 👏 Anderson, when speaking to the press, did not indicate if he would choose to manage again.

May 13th Field B Mixed game

A 3 team game today with managers Steve Hill, Tom Kniery and Ron Thompson. The parity of the three teams on paper sure did look very even. But when the game started, senior softball took over and proved that to be false. Why??  Because team Ron scored 5 runs in 5 of the 6 innings they batted as it was a flip flop game and did not hit in the open inning. Final score was Team Thompson 27, Team Hill 14 and Team Kniery 10.

Team Thompson hitters
    Vandenberg.  4-5
    Tutrani.             3-4
    Nestor.              3-3
    Hudson.           3-4
    Jeff R.                3-4
    Jorge.                 4-4
    Shearer.           2-3
    Papineau.       3-4

Team Kniery hitters
    Ouding.          3-4
    Toro.                4-4
    Anderson.    2-3
    Mike R.           2-3

Team Hill hitters
    Hill.                 2-3
    Lynch.            2-3

Friday May 9th mixed game.

What a contrast from Tuesday when 4 teams scored 110 runs and today when 3 teams scored 31 runs. There was also an abundance of walks and illegal pitches thrown. Also, many hits were infield bloopers and dribbles and we all know they look like line drives in the book.
Managers were Dampier, Wally and Spitilari. Team Wally held a 4-3-2 lead after 1 inning and after 2 it was 4-3-4. Then Team Wally and Dampier withered out while Team Spitilari scored at will, finishing a flip flop game with 19 of the 31 runs. Team Wally put up all goose eggs after the 1st inning and Team Dampier maged 4 more for the final of 19-8-4.
Team Wally hitters
    Gutenberger. 2-3
     Ramon.           2-2
     Anderson.      2-3 w/HR
     Rafael.             2-2

Team Dampier hitters
    Lynch.                2-4
    J- Rod.                3-4
    Castilleja.         2-3
    Dampier.           2-2

Team Spitilari hitters
    Vandenberg.   3-4
    Pepin.                 3-3
    Rusty.                 4-4
     Howard.           3-4
     Jorge.                 2-3
     Marino.             2-3
     Spitilari.           3-3

A good time was had by all and see y'all Tuesday to do it again.
