Tuesday Games

It was obvious from the level of excitement, that players were glad to be back at the DiamondPlex.Unfortunately we received sad news regarding Joe D'Herin. He passed away peacefully at his home last night. I stopped by and gave Nancy the card each of you signed. She wanted me to thank you for the card and your prayers throughout this journey.

Team Wally and Team Tutrani played on Field A. It was a close game the entire way, with neither team ever able to separate themselves from the other. The largest difference occurred in the first inning when Mark's guys took a three run lead.. They relinquished the lead in the third inning but regained it in the fifth, holding it through the eighth. Team Wally scored three runs in the ninth to take a one run lead. Team Tutrani answered immediately as the first runner scored to tie the game but that was it as they failed to score another run. The game ended in a tie, Team Wally 14 and Team Tutrani 14.

Outstanding performances
Guttenberg 4-4

Team Hill as home against Team Ouding in another very close game. It was a game of feast or famine as both teams either scored mulitple runs or put up goose eggs. After the second inning there was never more than one run separating the teams. Going into the ninth Team Ouding was up by a single run. They were unable to score in the top of the inning. Meanwhile, Team Hill scored two quick runs on four hits. Final score Team Hill 18 and Team Puding 17.

Outstanding performances
Woodsby 5-5 w/triple
Turchetta 4-5
Cruz 4-4

***League News***

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our good friend and board member, Joseph "Joe" D'Herin.

Joe was originally from Michigan and retired from Ford Motor Company in 2001. He later made his home in Lake Wales with his wife, Nancy. Together, they were blessed with three sons and eight grandchildren.

Joe began playing in the WHSS league in 2004, participating in both the American and National leagues. He was also an active competitor in the Florida Half Century League starting in 2005. His dedication to the sport and the community extended beyond the field, as he served on the WHSSC Board beginning in 2014. In recognition of his contributions, Joe was inducted into the Polk County Senior Softball Hall of Fame in 2018.

Joe will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Friday Games

Before recapping today's games I want to acknowledge the Board for putting on a great picnic today following the games. It was particularly nice to see so many family members out  cheering on their spouses,

Secondly to highlight the big news: We will be back at the Diamond Plex starting Tuesday. Sign-in remains 08:30. Make sure you bring your bats.

We had two games again today. Sam Lopez's team faced off against Dave Rounds's team. It was interesting to say the least: neither team scored through the third inning, suggesting a battle of the pitchers. Both teams managed to put up runs in three of the last four innings and the teams were tied after six. Team Rounds failed to score in the seventh, leaving Sammy's team needing one run to pull off the victory. BJ started off th inning and ended up the winning run. Final score Team opez 7 and Team Rounds 6.

Outstanding performances
Rounds 3-3
Turchetta 3-3
Guzzo 3-3
LaTourneau 3-3
Herbie 3-3

Teams Tutrani and Ouding played each other on field  one. Don's guys took a one run lead into the second inning and then outscored Mark's team in every inning through the eighth. In that span they managed to outscore their opponent eleven runs to five. Going into the last inning, the score was Team Ouding 15 and Team Tutrani 8. Don's guys were shut out which just left Mark having to score seven to tie and eight to win. They gave it the old college try as they scored four runs and had the bases loaded when the last out was made. Final score Team Ouding 15 and Team Tutrani 12.

Outstanding performances
Testa 4-4
Tutrani 4-4
Ora 3-4
Griffin 3-4
Venderhyde 3-4
Anderson 3-4
Ramon 4-4
Johnston 3-3

Tuesday's Games

We had four teams today, so we were able to play two nine-inning games. Don Keller's team played Sam Lopez's team in an interesting match. Sammy's time took off like they were shot out of a cannon and held a nine to one lead after the third inning.  Things slowly turned around for Team Keller as they managed to score in every inning the rest of the way while holding Sammy's team scoreless in three of the last six innings. It was tied in the fifth inning, and the lead increased each inning. The final score was Team Keller 19, Team Lopez 12.

Outstanding Performances
Rad 4-5
Spitaleri 4-5
DeLoach 4-5
Ott 4-4
Tutrani 4-4
Langell 4-4
Johnston 3-4 w/ homer

Team Ouding squared off against Team Dampier on the adjacent field.  What should have been a very competitive game did not turn out that way as the one team dominated the other from start to finish. The closest the game got was in the first inning when Don's team scored two runs and Freddy's team tallied one. Team Ouding then put up runs in five of the ensuing innings. Unfortunately for Team Dampier they were shut out the rest of the way. The final score was Team Ouding 10 and Team Dampier 1.

Friday Game Summary

With 37 players today, we divided up into three teams managed by Ron Pepin, Don Ouding, and Juan Toro. Ron's group jumped out to an early lead in the first inning scoring four runs. Don's team was shut out and Juan's team scored three. Here is where it gets interesting: Ron's group only managed six runs the rest of the way. They were shut out in three of those innings.Meanwhile, Don's group struggled to score, managing only two runs after five innings, and remained in third place.  In the sixth and seventh innings, they finally scored on back to back homers by Steve Johnston and Ramon, but still trailed Ron's bunch by three runs. What was noteworthy was the run production—or lack thereof—by Team Toro. Although they scored three runs in the first inning, they were shut out the rest of the game, ending with the same total they had in the first inning. Final score, Team Pepin 10, Team Ouding 7, and Team Toro 3.

Outstanding Performances
Reagen 4-4
Sullivan 4-4

Friday Games

Before getting to the games, I want to thank those of you who attended the HOF Banquet and helped make it a memorable evening for the inductees. A special call out to Gary Burtner, Joe Leturneau and the Haines City Limits for providing some great music. This year's class included Robert Spialeri, Bobby Vandenberg, Bob DiPietro, JImmy Laffoon, and Jarrett-Gordon Ford. Please congratulate them the next time you see them.

It seems like this field is quickly getting to be known for producing low scoring games. There were only 13 runs scored in the nine inning game. Each team played six scoreless innings. Team Pepin took the lead in the first and held the lead throughout the game. The final score was Team Pepin 8 and Team Ouding 5.

Outstanding performances
Guzzo 4-5
Toro 4-4
Reagen 4-4
Griffin 4-4
Sullivan 3-3
Shaffer 3-3
Pepin 3-3

Don Keller's guys faced off against Fred DeLoach's bunch on the other field. Don's guys scored four in the first but quickly gave up the lead. Fred's group held the lead then through the sixth inning, albeit by a single run.Team Keller maxed out in the seventh to take a scant two run lead. In the eighth, Team Keller again outscored Team Deloach to build a four run lead. Each team managed one run in the ninth, so the final score ws Team Keller 22 and Team DeLoach 17. Before going to  outstanding performance I should point out that Ron Fleming returned from cataract surgery and went five for five. Obviously it was worth it.

Outstanding Performances
Williamson 5-6
Keller 5-6 w/homer
Deluca 6-6
Rad 4-5
Johnston 4-5
Fleming 5-5

TUESDAY'S GAMES

Before recapping this morning's games, I want to remind everyone that the Hall of Fame Banquet is tomorrow night starting at 05:30. The induction ceremony will begin promptly at 6:00. Directions are on the back of your ticket.

On field one, we pitted the two field managers against each other since they played to a tie last week. Well, after today's game, there is no doubt who came out on top. Team Wiliamson took a four run lead in the first and never looked back.. Team Marino only managed to score in three of the nine innings. It might have been closer if they hadn't ended three innings with the bases loaded and two other innings where the stranded two runners. Team Williamson was consistent, scoring in all but two innings. While their bats were hot, their run production was aided by some less that stellar defense by Team Marino. The final score was Team Williamson 15 and Team Marino 7

Outstanding Performances
Tutrani 4-4
Munoz 4-4
Dampier 4-4
Johnston 4-5

Team Spitaleri faced off against Team Ouding on Field Two. Team Spit trailed by two after the first inning but took the lead in the second. They extended the lead to two in the third, where it remained until the seventh as each team matched the other in runs scored in each inning. Both scores scored multiple runs in the seventh, but Team Spit extended the lead to three runs..The close games disappeared as Team Spit outscoreed Team Ouding by four runs in the eighth and opening up a seven run lead. Fortunately Team Ouding went three and out to end the game. Final score Team Spitaleri 15 and Team Ouding 8.

Outstanding Performances
Turchetta 4-4
Griffin 4-5
LeTourneAU 4-5
Pepin 4-4

Friday Games Recap

On Field one we pitted the equipment managers against each other. Richie Marino faced off against Jim Williamson. Richie surprised everyone by starting himself at shortstop and batting clean up, then proudly announcing to the field "Take that sucker". Actually the game turned out to be very exciting as the outcome of the game was not decided until the last batter came to the plate. Jim's team took a three run lead in the first, lost it in the third, regained it in the fourth and held a three run lead going into the eighth. In the eighth Marino's Yankees(?) scored three tying up the game. In the ninth inning each team managed only one hit and since it wasn't over the fence, the score remained as it was in the eighth...10-10. We will allow them to try again on Tuesday to determine the winner of the Equipment Manager Shootout.

Outstanding Performances
Rabineau 5-5
Ott 4-5
Johnston 4-5
Tutrani 5-5

On Field two, two experienced managers faced off. Dave Rounds squared off against Don Ouding.  The box score is very reminiscent of the other game as Don's guys took the early lead and then lost the lead the next inning when Dave's boys scored four in the second while shutting Don's team down. In the fifth, Don's guys shut down Team Rounds and scored four themselves. In the sixth inning, both teams put up multiple runs resulting in a ten to ten tie. The next three innings however, saw the Rounders outscoring Don's guys by 11 runs to take a a decisive lead. Final score Rounders 20, and Ouding's team 9.

Outstanding Performances,
Zelazny 5-5
Vandenberg 5-6
Castillega 4-5 and played an outstanding ssecond base accounting for eight or nine outs
Lopez 5-5
Capozzi 4-5
Anderson 4-5

Tuesday

Two pretty interesting games today.  One was pretty much decided by the 5th inning, team Ouding was up 14-4 over team Rounds and the final was 22-9.
The other field featured team Toro vs team Keller. Toro led 2-0 after 1 inning and and 2-1 after 2 innings. From there on both teams put up goose eggs and never had more than 2 base runner in an inning helped much by at least 6 inning ending double plays. Final score of 2-1.

Friday Games Recap

TUESDAY IS THE LAST DAY TO PURCHASE YOUR HOF TICKETS. IF YOU CANNOT MAKE IT TO THE BALLPARK TUESDAY AND STILL WANT TO GO, PLEASE CONTACT LOREN OR DONNIE.

We had perfect weather for today's games. Freddie Dampier came up with some original names for the Teams on Field 1. He named Juan Toro's team the bulls and his team the Peirs. So in the first inning, both the Bulls and the Piers scored four runs. The Bulls fell behind as they were shut out in four of the next six innings. While this was occurring, the Piers scored three or more in every inning but the sixth.  So at the end of seven, it was the Piers 21 and the Bulls 10. The Bulls rallied in the eighth and ninth innings, scoring five in each, but it was not enough. Final score Team Dampier 24 and Team Toro 20.

Outstanding Peformances
Hus 4-5 w/homer
Vandenberg 4-5
Carlos 4-5 w/double
Muniz 4-5
Dampier 4-5
Johnston 4-5
Reymundo 5-5
Jorge 5-5

Don Keller managed the visiting team against Team Tutrani on field two. It looked like a blowout early on for the Dons guys. built a 12-6 lead after four innings.Mark's bats came alivein the fifth and sixth innings, closing within two. Both teams exchanged runs, so at the end of eight it was Keller 17 and Tutrani 15. Team Keller needed a big inning as Team Tutrani had the top of the lineup coming to the plate. Well, Team Keller got the big inning, sending all eleven players to the plate and scoring seven runs. The first four batters for Team Tutrani hit and scored. Unfortunately it ended three outs later. Final score Team Keller 24 and Team Tutrani 19.

Outstanding performances

Friday's Game.

A couple administrative announcements before covering the game

First is the upcoming HOF Dinner/Dance where we will induct three of our own into the HOF: Bob Vandenberg, Robert Spitaleri, and Jimmy Laffoon. Tickets are only $20 per person and are on sale now. Please buy a couple tickets and help us recognize these outstanding individuals.

Second is the reminder that players need to sign or call before 08:30 if they plan on playing. Today we had enough players to have two full team games, however three player elected to come in after the teams had been made (the latest actually came 10 minutes after our strat time), resulting in playing with 13 and 14 players on each team. Please be considerate and be on time.

Apologize for the lack of specifics regarding today's game but unfortunately, the score sheets were locked up and unavailable. Consequently, no outstanding performances. The game started out with goose eggs for each team in the first inning.Team Keller held the lead after five innings, but Team Rounds scored five in the sixth  to tie them. Team Tutrani trailed by two at that time..The seventh saw Team Rounds go out to a commanding four run lead over both the other teams. Only Team Keller scored in the eighth so the score was Team Rounds 11, Team Keller 8, and Team Tutrani 7. Don's guys hit well in the ninth and scored four runs to take a one run lead. Team Rounds had their big hitters up but were unable to score leaving them at 11. Team Tutrani needed five to tie and six to win it all.  Well to bring this to a close, let me say they managed five before the last ourt weas made. Final score Team Keller 12, Team Tutrani 12, and Taem Rounds 11..

Tuesday, February 17, 2026. We had a turnout of 15 players this week. With just five more participants, we could have organized a full game. Currently, we focus on batting practice due to the limited number of players. Unfortunately, we lack a reliable method to predict attendance. The distribution of shorts confirmed the number of attendees. We have access to the field and encourage everyone to join us for practice sessions. Tuesday Games

We managed to field four full teams today as we had a number of American League players join us. I sometimes fail to mention the guys that make this happen every week.So here it goes... I don't know if you are aware that Richie Marino, Jim Williamson, and Loren Fabian show up every day around 06:30 to determine if we can play based on field conditions and then set up all the fields. This includes lining the fields, setting the bases and bringing out the equipment.Make sure you thank them when you see them.

Team Ouding and Team Rounds fought it out on field one. To say it was strange is an understatement. It was bizarre. Team Ouding jumped out to an early nine run lead and it looked like it was going to be a blow out. Then came the  bottom of the fourth, and Team Rounds came roaring back by scoring nine runs and tieing up the game. It remained close through the eighth inning with only two runs separating the two teams. Then the bats came alive again for Team Ouding as thirteen batters came to the plate and managed to score ten runs. Down by twelve, Donna led off and scored. Good defense shut them down leaving the final score Team Ouding 28 and Team Rounds 17.

Outstanding Performances
Smith 6-7
Zelazny 5- 7
Hudson 5-6 w/homer
O'callahan 5-6
Rad 6-6
Thompson 5-6
Gil 4-4 w/homer
Griffin 3-4w/homer
Pepin 3-4

Team Tutrani faced off against Team Dampier on field two. What should have been a very exciting and close game, with tons of runs being scored, turned out to be a low scoring lopsided affair. Team Tutrani managed only three runs through four innings, but that was more than enough to open a lead, as Team Dampier failed to score through the third. They put up two runs in the fourth and that proved to be the only runs they scored the entire game..Meanwhile, Mark's guys scored multiple runs in each of the remaining innings. The final score ended up Team Tutrani 13 and Team Dampier 2.

Outstanding performances
Nestor 4-4
DeLuca 3-4 w/homer
Knox 4-4
Capozzi 3-3

Friday 13 February

While there was considerable fog early on, it started to clear at game time and we actually had ideal playing conditions. We had enough players to manage two games, albeit with ten players in some cases.I cannot begin to tell you what a difference it makes to play with only four outfielders and no middle infielder. Needless to say there were a lot of hits created by the gaps. Before covering the games, I need to acknowledge the guys who stepped up to manage today....Fred DeLoach, Juan Toro, Don Keller, and Mark Tutrani.

Team Toro faced off against Team DeLoach on field one in a game that was exciting, but not ever close. The only inning that Fred's team outscored Juan's was the sixth. The final score could have been much worse if not for the flip flop and the four run per inning rules. There were a combined ten balls that left the park by both teams.  Another curious fact was that Juan's players were able to hit nine grounders between first and second bases. Both statistics have to be a record..The final score was Team Toro 27 and Team DeLoach 17.
Outstanding performances
Hus 4-5
Zelazny 4-5/homer
Willamson 4-5  w/2/homers,one which didnt count
Ayers 5-5
Ora 5-5
Knox 5-6
Gil 5-6 w/homer
Johnston 5-5
Gelesky 4-5

Team Tutrani took an early lead and held it through the fifth inning when Team Keller scored four runs to take a razor thin one run lead. Obviously feeling their oats, they went on to outscore Mark's group by six runs in the next two innings. Mark had the top of the line up coming to bat, needing seven runs to tie. With big hitters coming up it looked like there was a chance if they could just get a rally going. Unfortunately they were not able to score a single run and the game ended as Team Keller did not have to bat in the ninth. Final score Team Keller 16 and Team Tutrani 9.

Outstanding performances

Carlos 5-5

Tuesday Games

Both games today were exciting if you looked at the box scores. I first want to thank the 44 players that came out to play today. I also want to remind everyone of two issues. First is that games start at 0900 so you need to sign in by 08:30. Second, please watch the web site for a possible change in location for Friday's games. We are waiting for word from the DiamomdPlex ion whether the lighting project will be completed and we can return there.

Team Keller faced off against Team Tutrani on Field 2. Don's guys jumped out to an early three run lead in the first inning. Mark's guys woke up in the second both offensively and defensively as they took the lead in the second  Down by one in the ninthand held it through the seventh.
