The Grinch That Stole Christmas, Softball Style.

Team Grinch, Visitors: Rivera, Hamilton, Toro, Jacobson, Wiltshire, Giordano, Pepin, Dampier, Matta, Davis, Smith, Scarbrough and Essenmacher.
Team Whoville, Home: Coffman, Gazarek, Duff, Busch, Laffoon, Gonzalez, Witmer, Humphrey, Benson, Schapeler, Wells, Cappuzzi and Lopicollo.
In this, the last game before Christmas, every Who down in Whoville liked scoring runs a lot, but the Grinch in the field, no, he did not. Staring from the mound, with a sour Grinchy frown, Grinch Matta hated the Who bats, that lite up the town.

In the first inning, the Whos celebrated in a way, like it was already Christmas day. Coffman, Duff, Busch, Laffoon, Gonzalez and Witmer were the pesky Whos, who unwrapped many a run, it was their team that was having all the fun. All I can tell you, I am quite sure, the Whos needed to score, a little bit more.  After 1 inning the score was Team Grinch: 0 - Team Whoville: 5.

In the 2nd inning, team Grinch “puzzled and puzzeled, until their puzzler was sore.” And the more Team Grinch thought of this “Who Christmas scoring fling”, the more the Grinch thought, "I must stop this whole thing!"  Team Grinch were stumped as they starred through the fence, nothing they thought of made much sense. ”What can we do, how can we stop this hitting flu?”  Then they got an idea! An awful idea! TEAM GRINCH GOT A WONDERFUL, AWFUL IDEA! “I know just what to do”, Team Grinch laughed in their collective throat, “We will bring out some of our hot bats, and we will be the ones to gloat”.

“One man's toxic sludge is another man's potpourri”, thought the Grinch, flashing a sly smile, “now it’s our turn, to hit for a while”. Team Grinch scored 5-4-2-3-5-1 and 4 runs in the next seven innings. While the mean green one on the mound, Grinch Matta, spoiled the Who feast. Why he even managed to steal the Who roast beast. With the help of a solid defense, Grinch  Scarbrough’s glove and other stuff, team Grinch made life for the Who’s, a little bit rough.  “Ohh, the who-manity”.

As we tallied the score, after the end of 8 innings of play, it was Team Grinch we found that ruled the day. Team Grinch: 24- Team Whoville: 8

With the score all out of wack, Team Grinch looked inside, only to see a heart that was black. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before, maybe Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more. “Christmas”, team Grinch thought, “does not come from a score, Christmas has the birth of Christ at the core”.  And what happened then? Well...in Whoville they say, That the Grinch's small heart grew three sizes that day!

The game then ended quickly, with just a few more runs in. Then players exchanged handshakes, that way they all shared in the win. Some met at the mound, to lift up those in need. We realize, with God’s blessing, we can all be freed.  So, welcome Christmas, bring your cheer. Merry Christmas to all softball players, far and near.
